On 31 March 2020 the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services issued directions to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID 19 in all South African courts. The effect of these directions are that the only court cases which will be heard during lockdown are cases which are set down for hearing in the lockdown period (i.e. 26 March 2020 to 16 April 2020) or if the case is an urgent matter or an essential court application which must be heard and if not heard will lead to a substantial injustice, especially if the matter relates to the delivery of an essential service.

If you or your company have a case which is set down for hearing or have an urgent matter or court application which must be heard during the lockdown period, please contact us for further advice on whether it would be possible to secure a hearing and relief during the lockdown period.
