Lesai is a qualified attorney and gained criminal and general litigation experience during his articles at a leading law firm in Johannesburg, after which he made the move to Cullinan & Associates as an associate in order to pursue his passion and promote the interests which environmental law seeks to protect.
Lesai was also a member of a team which intervened to help prevent drilling for oil and gas in the Kavango Basin, Namibia (source of the waters that feed the Okavango delta). This involved partnering with Alliance Earth, to use the power of investigative journalism and forensic legal investigation with top litigators, to help prevent transgressions of environmental laws that would harm globally-significant ecosystems.
His experience includes providing advice to individual, non-profit and corporate clients, undertaking due diligence studies, assisting with legislative drafting in South Africa, identifying legal risks, conducting environmental legal compliance audits and assisting clients with litigious matters regarding administrative, climate, contract, criminal, delict, environmental, land rights, information, medicinal cannabis, municipal and procurement law and renewable energy law.
